Boxes and Banners Commemorates MFES 50th Anniversary

You may have noticed the painted / wrapped utility boxes around the city lately. Boxes and Banners is a fun project the Mississauga Arts Council is spearheading and gets local artists to create art on the utility boxes with themes relating to the neighborhoods that they’re in.
I am pleased to have initiated and sponsored a special utility box wrap at Fire Station 111 on Derry Rd at Glen Erin Dr.  I have asked MAC to arrange for a design that will commemorate our Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services and celebrate its 50th anniversary and will display images of MFES over the years.

I am happy to announce that the unveiling of the wrapped Utility Box at Fire Station 111 located at 2740 Derry Rd W, will take place on Saturday October 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.   Join us for some cookies and hot chocolate as well as some local entertainment as we unveil the artwork.

Late Johnny Bower Dedication

I am pleased to announce that Council approved my request to dedicate Rink 1 at Meadowvale Four Rinks located at 2160 Torquay Mews to the late Johnny Bower.
Johnny was a local resident as well as being a hockey legend.  He was especially a caring man who was always willing to support young people.  He always had a kind word for all and would respond tirelessly to request for autographs.  Sadly Johnny passed away in December 2017 before I could honour him with this dedication but his family will be there to accept on his behalf as we keep his memory alive in the community.  I am also pleased to have the support of the Meadowvale Minor Hockey Association and will be working with them as we plan the event.
Please mark Sunday October 28, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in your calendar for the official unveiling and renaming of Rink 1 at Meadowvale Four Rinks located at 2160 Torquay Mews.  I will be giving out commemorative hockey pucks. This special event will also include :
  • A Ceremony with Johnny Bower’s family
  • Coaches Charity Game featuring Meadowvale Minor Hockey Association coaches and Peel Regional Police
  • Meadowvale Hockey on-ice goalie tribute
  • Free refreshments: cupcakes, pizza, coffee and hot-chocolate
  • Free fun skate
  • Food drive for Eden Food For Change

Meadowvale Character Area Study Public Meeting November 3, 2018

As the City is receiving several applications for infill development and increased densities mainly in the Meadowvale area, I have asked our Planning staff to undertake a visioning process that will give residents input into how we will move ahead in processing these applications.  We have already had one application approved by the OMB and I want to ensure that we have the right policies in place to handle future ones.   The City is undertaking a study to assess the character of the townhouse and apartment areas in the Meadowvale Neighbourhood.

Planning staff are holding a series of community meetings this fall and I encourage you to attend and get involved in the process and  I would very much like your input and invite you to participate in the following community meetings..  The Meadowvale Character Area study will mainly focus on the area bounded by Britannia, Winston Churchill, Erin Mills Parkway and the CP railway but the policies can apply to the areas south of Britannia also.  Come and have your say as we shape Meadowvale.  We had a well attended community meeting on September 13, 2018 and received excellent feedback from over 120 residents.

Please join me on Saturday November 3, 2018 from 9:30 am to noon for a Bus/Walking Tour and Lunch at Edenwood Middle School – 6770 Edenwood Dr followed by a design working session to 4:00 pm.  Click here for more information about this project.and to register for the November 3rd session.  Registrations starts on October 5, 2018.
